Evie Virginia Thompson-Greer

Evie Virginia Thompson Greer was born on March 23, 1942 to the late George C. and Janey V. Thompson in Anderson SC. She was the eldest of six children, four whom preceded her in death: James, Charles, Mary, and Bobby George. Evie confessed Christ at an early age and was baptized at Mount Moriah Baptist Church in South Carolina. She attended Anderson public schools and graduated from Westside High School in 1960. After graduation, she met the late Booker T Greer, Sr. and they were married on December 29, 1962. To this union four children who were born; Kathy R., George J. Michael and Booker T. Jr., who preceded her in death. Evie And Booker T Sr., also adopted and raised Kenneth Greer. Evie was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, auntie, and friend. She loved to cook, bake, shop, and travel. Her great grandson Darius was her traveling buddy. Evie work for the state of Michigan at the Hawthorne Center in Northville and retired from there. Evie love the Lord and was a praying woman. Evie was a very strong-willed and private person. A “SHERO” she was a breast cancer survivor of over 10 years. Evie was a giver to numerous organizations and charities. She loved the under privilege and supported so many children all over the world. Saint Jude was especially dear to her heart. Evie was known as “Mama G” of Whitcomb St. She looked out for her neighbors and had been in the same community for 48 years. When Covid shattered Evie's dreams of going to the Holy Land Israel, she was devastated. Evie's smile was stripped from her on February 25, 2020 when she heard of the passing of her baby boy Booker T Jr. She was deeply heartbroken and could not recover from it. She missed her child and has reunited with her loved ones. She peacefully transitioned at home on November 11, 2020. Evie leaves to celebrate her life her children, Cathy (Leodius) Greer-Forte , George (Lisa) Greer, and Michael (DW) Greer; a brother Harry (Veronica) Thompson of Anderson SC; aunt, Lizzette Sullivan of SC; granddaughters, Aysha Graham and Ambernique Young; great-grandchildren, Darius, Isaac, Jasmine, and Kyoir; sisters-in-law, Janora McAllister, Ella Henderson, and Annie Lee Greer of Belton SC; and a host of aunts, cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Services were held for Evie Monday, November 23, 2020 in Detroit, MI.
