Vanessa Ruth Arnold Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Vanessa Ruth Arnold was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was called home on March 13, 2022 at the age of 57. Vanessa was born to Edna and Benny Hawthorne on October 18, 1964 in Anderson, SC. She is survived by a host of family and friends. Vanessa was the proud mother of three children: Sholanda Kennard, Yolanda Sawyer and Corey Johnson, two son-in-laws: Alfred Kennard and Perez Sawyer, three grandchildren: Ramarian Sawyer, Jr., Elijah Sawyer and Madison Kennard. She is also survived by two sisters: Dorothy Hawthorne and Susan Wardlaw, two brothers: Jerome Hawthorne and Steven Hawthorne, many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and her extended family: Reginald Arnold, Sylvia Arnold, Sylvine Mackey, Theresa Johnson, her sons Willie B., Denny, Larry-Dean, Robert and wife Martha, and the Johnson Family. Vanessa was preceded in death by her parents Edna and Benny Hawthorne, brothers: Albert Hawthorne, Benny Hawthorne Jr., Clyde Hawthorne and Robert Hawthorne, and sisters: Mary Barmore, Rosa Mae Downs, and Patricia Ware. After graduating high school, Vanessa enlisted in the US Army Reserves. As an Army veteran, she faithfully served 12 years before being discharged. Affectionately known as “Sugar”, she loved God, her family, playing candy crush, and watching westerns on television. She had a big heart and a big personality. Vanessa enjoyed making others laugh and spending time alone to rest. She was passionate and stubborn at times. But, she was also compassionate and caring. Vanessa touched the lives of many and will be truly missed by all those that she’s left behind. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 1:00P.M. at New Friendship Baptist Church, burial will follow in the Church Cemetery, visitation will be one hour before the service. Public viewing will be Friday from 12:00-7:00P.M. at the Funeral Home. Holloway's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
